Jacob’s Love for Rachel

Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, “I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.”

So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her. (Genesis 29:18, 20)

The love Jacob had for Rachel allowed him to be content with serving Laban for seven years for his wife to be. The Bible says those years seemed to be only a few days because he loved her so much. After Laban tricked him into consummating his marriage with Leah, he served Laban seven more years for Rachel. Now THATS love! In our time, love has gotten grossly misconstrued with extreme lust. If this was Jacob in 2014, those first seven years would have been excruciating because of how much he “loves” Rachel. It would be excruciating because he just wants to have that “legal outlet” to fulfill his sexual desires. As much as we don’t want to admit it, this is how most of us feel concerning marriage. Those seven years (waiting period) may feel like 50 years with this misunderstanding of love when they were meant to feel like only “a few days” if we really understood what love means.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

THIS is what love means! Once we get this our eyes will be opened to receive the true blessings of what a love relationship should consist of. I believe the biggest issue in our day is impatience. God wants us first to be content with Him and to be patient before we reap the benefit of our submission to Him.

Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! (Psalms 27:14)

Wait! Be patient! Ask for God’s peace and joy as He prepares your mate for you. Contrary to what is portrayed, marriage is NOT supposed to equal misery. Marriage is supposed to be our little taste of heaven here on earth IF we go about it God’s way. So here is my encouragement to you, if you have gone about things your own way repent and ask God to lead you with His divine guidance! And watch the peace of the Almighty reign over your entire being as He prepares you and your partner for true holy matrimony!

May the grace and peace of Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen!
